Itinerary
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, our representative from Nepal Lion Treks will greet you and transfer you to a comfortable hotel. After a short rest, you can explore the bustling streets of Thamel, a popular tourist hub filled with shops, cafés, and trekking gear outlets. In the evening, a warm welcome dinner awaits where you’ll meet your guide and fellow trekkers.
Today, you’ll explore the cultural wonders of Kathmandu Valley. A guided city tour will take you to UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Boudhanath Stupa, and the sacred Pashupatinath Temple. Later, you’ll have a briefing session where your trekking leader will go over details of the journey, ensuring you’re fully prepared for the adventure ahead.
An early morning scenic flight takes you to Lukla, the gateway to Everest. Upon landing, you’ll feel the thrill of entering the Khumbu region. The trek begins with a gentle walk through villages, mani walls, and lush forests along the Dudh Koshi River. After about 3–4 hours, you’ll arrive at Phakding where you’ll enjoy a cozy lodge stay.
Today is one of the most exciting trekking days as you gradually ascend through pine forests and cross suspension bridges draped in prayer flags. You’ll pass Monjo, the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park, before tackling the final steep climb into Namche Bazaar. Known as the “Gateway to Everest,” Namche offers a vibrant marketplace, bakeries, and stunning mountain views.
Acclimatization is crucial at higher altitudes. Today, you’ll hike to the Everest View Hotel (3,880m) for a stunning panorama of Everest, Ama Dablam, and Lhotse. The day also allows you to explore the Sherpa Museum and learn about the culture and mountaineering history of the region. You’ll spend the night back in Namche in a comfortable lodge.
Leaving Namche, the trail diverges from the classic Everest Base Camp route and heads towards the Gokyo Valley. You’ll ascend gradually through rhododendron and birch forests, enjoying views of Kangtega and Thamserku. After 5–6 hours of trekking, you’ll reach Dole, a small but serene settlement where you’ll stay overnight.
The trail today offers breathtaking scenery as you climb above the tree line. Yak pastures, alpine scrublands, and clear blue skies dominate the landscape. In just 4–5 hours, you’ll arrive in Machhermo, where legends say a yeti once attacked villagers. You’ll rest in a cozy lodge, preparing for higher altitudes ahead.
One of the highlights of the trek, today you’ll walk along the river, climb gentle ridges, and pass several beautiful lakes, including Longponga Tsho and Taujung Tsho. Finally, you’ll reach Gokyo Lake (Dudh Pokhari), a mesmerizing turquoise lake surrounded by snowy peaks. Gokyo village, perched by the lake, is your base for exploration.
Early in the morning, you’ll hike up to Gokyo Ri, one of the most famous viewpoints in the Everest region. From the summit, you’ll witness panoramic views of Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu. After descending, the rest of the day can be spent exploring the additional lakes of the Gokyo Valley, each more stunning than the last.
This is the most adventurous day of the trek. Crossing the Renjo La Pass at 5,360m, you’ll experience jaw-dropping views of Everest, Rolwaling, and the surrounding Himalayan ranges. The descent is steep but rewarding as you arrive at Marlung, a peaceful Sherpa village, for an overnight stay.
The trail follows ancient trade routes once used by Tibetan traders. You’ll trek through yak pastures, mani walls, and small Sherpa hamlets before reaching Thame. This picturesque village is famous for its monastery, which holds great cultural and spiritual significance in the Khumbu region.
You’ll retrace your steps back to Namche Bazaar through forests and Sherpa settlements. The trail is easier on the way down, and you’ll enjoy familiar comforts in Namche, including bakeries, shops, and warm lodges.
The descent continues as you cross suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River and pass through rhododendron forests. After 5–6 hours of trekking, you’ll reach Phakding, where you’ll spend the night in a comfortable lodge.
On your final trekking day, you’ll head back to Lukla. The journey is short and pleasant, giving you time to reflect on your Himalayan adventure. In the evening, you’ll enjoy a celebratory dinner with your guide and porters.
An early morning scenic flight takes you back to Kathmandu. You’ll be transferred to your hotel, where you can rest or explore the capital city once more. Optional spa treatments or souvenir shopping are perfect ways to spend the day.
This is a contingency day in case of flight delays from Lukla, which are common due to weather. If flights go smoothly, you’ll have free time to further explore Kathmandu, visit Bhaktapur or Patan, or enjoy local cuisine.
After breakfast, we’ll transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward journey. Your trek concludes with wonderful memories of the Gokyo Valley and the Renjo La adventure.
